The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Social Care Research has just published an introduction to system dynamics targeted at the social care sector. The report also has a more general interest as a practical introduction to system dynamics concepts, and how they can be applied across a range of human services. The NIHR is a large, multi-faceted and nationally distributed organisation, funded through the (England) Department of Health to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The report’s author, Douglas McKelvie of Symmetric LLP, has worked in social work, social work education, workforce regulation and development. For the past 11 years Douglas has specialised in applying system dynamics modelling and simulation across the health and social care sector.
