National Taught Course Centre in Operational Research (NATCOR) – System Dynamics Training (UPDATE)

National Taught Course Centre in Operational Research (NATCOR) – System Dynamics Training (UPDATE)

Are you a PhD student interested in System Dynamics, undertaking research with a strong mathematical content?
The National Taught Course Centre in Operational Research (NATCOR), will be holding a 2 ½ day System Dynamics course at University of Warwick from July 2nd to July 4th 2018.

NATCOR provides UK-based taught courses for PhD students and early career researchers working in Operational Research (OR) and related areas, such as statistics, applied probability, quantitative finance, industrial engineering and computer science.

Further details about NATCOR and the courses they provide can be found at www.NATCOR.ac.uk.

Survey of SD teaching practices

Are you involved, at any level or in any setting, in teaching or training people in any aspect of System Dynamics? This could be as a subject in its own right, as part of another subject, training people how to use System Dynamics software, or any other; in an academic, industry, consultancy, or specific sector context.  If so, we at the UK chapter would like to hear from you and we have devised a simple questionnaire which we hope will inform a round-table discussion at our forthcoming conference (http://systemdynamics.org.uk/annual-gathering/).

The questionnaire asks some straightforward questions and makes reference to the ‘competency framework’ that was recently published in the System Dynamics Review (Schaffernicht & Groesser 2016).

If in doubt, please send us something.

*** Complete the survey here: https://cardiff.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/survey-of-sd-teaching-practices ***

Responses would be appreciated by 31st March 2017 so they can inform the panel discussion at the forthcoming UK Conference.

If you have any questions or comments, or would prefer to complete the survey as a word document, please contact Jenny Morgan (morganjs2@cf.ac.uk).

Please forward this email on anyone else you think should have received it, including anyone who taught you something about System Dynamics.

Ventana Systems UK Vensim Workshops

Ventana Systems UK are holding a series of workshops in the use of the Vensim System Dynamics software.  These will be held from June 5th to 7th in Salisbury.  Further details here.

NATCOR SD training course – 9th to 11th May 2016

Category : News

We have been informed of an SD training course to be held at the University of Warwick on the 9th to 11th May and thought you might like to know.  Details can be found here. The purpose of this two and a half-days seminar is to introduce system dynamics and illustrate its use in operational research, particularly at the strategic end of operations. The seminar includes lectures, workshops and discussion of contemporary applied research.

International System Dynamics Summer School

An international System Dynamics Summer School (16-18 July 2014 (+19 July)) will be organized in Delft at the conference venue of the 2014 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society, right before the conference (20-25 July 2014, Delft, the Netherlands). The summer school will be taught at two different levels by a team of excellent international System Dynamics professors: there will be a basic/intermediate class as well as an advanced class (with many advanced topics). Plus: there will be supervision for those who are in need of supervision (e.g. for their PhD). The basic class will also receive pre-summer school online learning materials, will be able to take an exam and retake exam, etc. Lunches, a social activity and a dinner on Saturday are included in the 300 euro registration fee. Some additional activities during the conference and post-conference workshop days are also included. For more information, see the summer school pages on the website of the System Dynamics Society: http://conference.systemdynamics.org/summer-school/

The 3-day pre-conference System Dynamics summer school, the 1-day pre-conference PhD Colloquium (open to all summer school participants), the 3-day International System Dynamics Conference, and the 2-day post-conference workshops and master classes aim to introduce newcomers to the field, keep practitioners aware of current developments, and provide unparalleled networking opportunities. Don’t miss this total immersion in System Dynamics modeling and simulation of 3 up to 10 days!

Note also that the paper/workshop submission deadline for the 2014 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society (20-25 July 2014, Delft, the Netherlands) is exactly 1 month from today: don’t hesitate to submit your papers. For more information, see the conference web site: http://conference.systemdynamics.org/

Free System Dynamics E-Book By Dr Pruyt of Delft University of Technology

Dr. Erik Pruyt of Delft University of Technology has released an e-book that offers a  blended-learning approach to System Dynamics. The e-book is freely available from here. The e-book allows students to learn how to build SD models of dynamically complex issues, simulate and analyse them, and use them to design adaptive policies and test their robustness.
