Announcement from Strategy Dynamics

Announcement: Enterprise Architecture and System Dynamics

Strategy Dynamics is pleased to announce a practice-and-research collaboration with Chinese Culture University of Taiwan into the opportunity for system dynamics to contribute to Enterprise Architecture (the mapping of organisational processes and capabilities as a platform for enterprise-wide information-systems planning – for more on the topic, see the Open Group, a network of global organisations collaborating on EA http://opengroup.org/subjectareas/enterprise).

A summary slide-show on the connection we will be exploring is at http://sdl.re/easdlink. A video of the announcement is at http://sdl.re/aEADlaunch. Segments of a lecture to an Enterprise Architecture conference in Taipei on the EA<>SD linkages are in a playlist at http://sdl.re/EASDvideos. Essentially, EA focuses on descriptive mapping of an organisation’s business processes, while SD builds working models of the system itself, on which those processes act – so combining the two should be both possible and valuable, especially to the IS/IT community.

We are delighted to be working with Professors Simon Lu and Min-Ren Yan and Dr Lesly Lin at CCU’s School of Continuing Education on this.

CfWI use system dynamics to inform a strategic review of the future dentistry workforce

The Centre for Workforce Intelligence is the national authority on workforce planning and development, providing advice and information to the health and social care system. The CfWI was commissioned by Health Education England (HEE) and the Department of Health (DH) to forecast and analyse the future supply of and demand for the English dental workforce between 2012 and 2040. The report will support HEE, DH and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in policy decision-making to secure the dental workforce of the future and specifically the number of students required. System dynamics was used to support the strategic analysis. The final report is available here.

The webinar will be presented by Dr Jack Homer of Homer Consulting. The talk is part of a series of free webinars on Big Data and System Dynamics. More details available at the System Dynamics Society website.

Integrating Economics and System Dynamics Approaches for Modeling an Ecological-Economic System

Dr Yoko Nagase, Programme Lead for Economics at Oxford Brookes University, will be talking about integrating economics and system dynamics approaches on October 16th at Department of Land Economy in Cambridge University. The talk will describe collaboration between system dynamicists and economists to model a multi-sector, ecological-economic model of population and resource dynamics that is firmly based on economic theory and leverages the strengths of both fields.
