Networking Event – The Cumberland Initiative – London Wednesday 6 July 2016

THEME : The Cumberland Initiative, modelling and simulation in healthcare, and System Dynamics

VENUE:  Royal College of Nursing, Cavendish Square, LONDON

DATE:     Wednesday 6 July 2016

TIME:      16.15 – 18.00

The Cumberland Initiative is a unique collaboration between academics, modelling and simulation practitioners, and the healthcare sector in the UK, led by Professor Terry Young of Brunel University as:

“a movement to encourage systems thinking, simulation and modelling of healthcare scenarios to improve NHS quality of care delivery and save money.”

http://cumberland-initiative.org/

This networking event will include some input from Terry Young about the aims of the Cumberland Initiative followed by a discussion of how System Dynamic modelling and simulation can contribute to this agenda.

Admission is free, but you must register (on Eventbrite, see below) so that we know how many people to expect; and please remember to de-register should your plans change.

Tea and coffee will be available from 4.15, and we will start at 4.30, finishing no later than 6.00, when we will adjourn to a nearby bar for refreshments and food (at participants’ own expense!).

This event is for members of the SD society and anyone else interested in system dynamics or healthcare strategy.

Km Waren’s Keynote talk at Young OR 19

“Recorded at YOR19 conference, Aston UK, September 2015, this demonstrates a simple start to the AgileSD process for a policing case, using the Sysdea browser-based software. The video then explains the process and its advantages of speed, impact and reliability.”

System Dynamics at Euro2015

Of interest to members of the UK Chapter, if you don’t already know, there is a  System Dynamcs and Simulation stream at this year’s European Conference on Operational Research, chaired by Markus Schwaninger.

Details are:

27th European Conference on Operational Research
12th-15th July, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow

Conference: YoungOR 19 System Dynamics Stream

The YoungOR 19 Conference will be held at Aston Conference Meeting Rooms 22 – 24 September 2015. The conference is designed with people in the first 10 years of their careers in mind with relevant plenaries, streams, workshops and a careers panel.

Abstract submissions are welcome for any of the numerous streams until the 12th June 2015. To find out more about these streams and how to submit your paper then please visit the YOR19 page at the OR Society www.theorsociety.com/YOR19 .

In particular, the System Dynamics stream welcomes a broad range of contributions using system dynamics, including (but not limited to):

– theoretical and methodological advances,

– insights into the model development process,

– the practice of quantitative and qualitative SD for modelling complex, real world problems (current or historical case studies)

– mixed methods modelling (where SD is mixed with other simulation and OR methods).

Please feel free to contact the stream organiser Jennifer Morgan (morganjs2@cf.ac.uk) if you would like to know more about the stream.

We look forward to welcoming you to Aston and the YoungOR community.
