Festival of Evidence, 20-24 October 2014

Festival of Evidence

promoting the use of modelling and simulation in healthcare.

20-24 October 2014

Runnymede Hotel, Runnymede-on-Thames, Windsor Road, Egham, Surrey TW20 0AG

Unlike Evidence Based Medicine, with decades of development and investment, care process engineering is still in its early stages. This might be surprising, given the sophistication of modern medicine and the systems used elsewhere in the economy. However, even the concept of evidence varies, quite apart from having agreed standards to integrate outcomes and operational measures, financial analyses and indicators of patient satisfaction. Thus, using evidence reproducibly to deliver higher quality care with greater efficiency at scale remains a major challenge. Moreover, the literature is fragmented with various ways of presenting different types of evidence, spread across journals, websites, Annual Reports, guidance documentation and held in people’s memories.

This is an opportunity to identify what evidence there is, how it is being generated, and what should be done to make it more systematic.

International System Dynamics Summer School

An international System Dynamics Summer School (16-18 July 2014 (+19 July)) will be organized in Delft at the conference venue of the 2014 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society, right before the conference (20-25 July 2014, Delft, the Netherlands). The summer school will be taught at two different levels by a team of excellent international System Dynamics professors: there will be a basic/intermediate class as well as an advanced class (with many advanced topics). Plus: there will be supervision for those who are in need of supervision (e.g. for their PhD). The basic class will also receive pre-summer school online learning materials, will be able to take an exam and retake exam, etc. Lunches, a social activity and a dinner on Saturday are included in the 300 euro registration fee. Some additional activities during the conference and post-conference workshop days are also included. For more information, see the summer school pages on the website of the System Dynamics Society: http://conference.systemdynamics.org/summer-school/

The 3-day pre-conference System Dynamics summer school, the 1-day pre-conference PhD Colloquium (open to all summer school participants), the 3-day International System Dynamics Conference, and the 2-day post-conference workshops and master classes aim to introduce newcomers to the field, keep practitioners aware of current developments, and provide unparalleled networking opportunities. Don’t miss this total immersion in System Dynamics modeling and simulation of 3 up to 10 days!

Note also that the paper/workshop submission deadline for the 2014 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society (20-25 July 2014, Delft, the Netherlands) is exactly 1 month from today: don’t hesitate to submit your papers. For more information, see the conference web site: http://conference.systemdynamics.org/

Calling all System Dynamics Students

Student Presentations at the 2014 Conference

We would like to invite you to consider submitting a student presentation (poster or slides) for the forthcoming system dynamics conference of the UK chapter which will take place in London between 3-4 April 2014.

Students are invited to submit proposals for oral presentations and/or poster designs explaining research projects employing system dynamics as part of their studies (PhD, masters or undergraduate level students at British universities considered). Prizes are available for both presentation formats. Ongoing work is warmly welcomed for which feedback can be sought from practitioners and other academics and as such, presenting can be an invaluable source of feedback for students in the middle of their studies.

Student submissions cannot be accepted after the cut-off date 15 March 2014.

To submit a paper or poster, complete the form here.

Applications are also still open for the student prize.

Please pass this information on to others you may know who could also be interested in presenting their system dynamics research submissions from British universities.
